The fabulous fabric origins: The first seersucker fabrics originated in India, and was first known as shir o shekar, which means ‘milk & sugar.’ It was suitably named due to its’ crease free combination of smooth and rough stripes. The texture is made during the weaving process when the warp yarns (those that run up and down the body) are interwoven at different tensions. This natural puckering creates pockets of space, allowing for air circulation and breathability.
This flower print cotton seersucker fabric has been sourced as deadstock fabric from Wall Fabrics. It is 100% cotton. Fabric texture is permanent - it will stay true after washing.
